REDUCING THE RISK OF COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH RESECTION
The Olympus SurgMaster resectoscope is used with saline for irrigation. Conventional electrosurgery requires a non-ionic distension medium, which has the potential risk of complications: hyponatraemia, pulmonary and cerebral oedema, and cardiac arrhythmias have all been reported from the use of glycine, sorbitol and mannitol. Saline distension helps to reduce such risks and allows resection time to be increased.
