EUS guided fine-needle aspiration is well established as an effective diagnostic technique, offering assistance in the staging and tissue acquisition of malignant disease, including esophageal, pancreatic, gastric and colorectal cancer, through mediastinal nodal involvement, and the assessment of benign disease, such as chronic pancreatitis, choledocholithiasis, (common bile duct stones) and gallstones. The use of CLA scopes has now developed beyond fine needle aspiration, supporting a number of interventional techniques ranging from pancreatic pseud-cyst drainage to choledochoduodenostomy.
