Treatment of Emphysema

Designed to provide clinically meaningful improvements in patient health status, the IBV Valve System is a new, minimally invasive treatment for patients with emphysema.

The key objective of care for patients with emphysema is to address individual symptoms and improve quality of life.  Medications alone do not modify the long-term decline in lung function and quality of life.  Surgical options have substantial risks with long recovery periods and are available to very few selected patients.

The IBV Valve is a new treatment option for the many people with emphysema, designed to limit airflow to the treated lobes of the lung, redirect inspired air from treated diseased areas of the lungs to the healthier untreated lobes, and shift volume over time from the treated to untreated lobes.

The goal of therapy is improvement in patient health status and clinical data indicate that there are clinically meaningful improvements in health status and regional lung volumes in some patients due to the IBV Valve treatment1.

Appropriate patient selection is very important to help ensure safety effectiveness.

Publications from Spiration’s clinical studies on the IBV Valve can be accessed through their website.
